I've heard a lot of really great things about NT Wright. I really need to get reading some of his stuff.

I agree about how this book could stack the deck, even unintentionally. I hadn't thought about it...but duh.

Ugh, that's a dreadful sentence--worse than a lot of what I read in theology books in seminary. And I have to admit that the idea of one person presenting both points of view seems like it could be a problem. It would be way too easy to stack the deck in support of one position, even if doing so unintentionally.

For something that takes a similar approach, but on different topics, I'd recommend The Meaning of Jesus, by Marcus Borg and N.T. Wright. They each explain their positions on a bunch of topics related to Jesus: the Virgin birth, Jesus' divinity, the resurrection. And they don't agree much, but they disagree graciously. Wright has co-written a similar book with John Dominic Crossan on the resurrection, but I haven't read it so can't attest to its quality.
