A Simple Mug Rug

For some Christmas gifts this year, I’ve been sewing up a little storm of mug rugs, based somewhat loosely on this tutorial from The Split Stitch. I’m cutting my quilting teeth on these little guys, hoping to tackle some larger quilts in the near future (I am going to be an aunt soon, after all, and that kid is going to need something to snuggle in). So far, these big coasters / little placemats been a hit with my friends, and I’ve been able to hone my quilting, corner mitering, and slip stitch skills.

Also, I want to buy all the fabric ever.

(And I want to steal those fabulous yellow Le Creuset mugs from my office’s kitchen.)

  1. After Christmas 2011 – I have come down firmly on the mug rug side of the mug rug vs. ceramic (who thinks that’s a good idea?) coaster. You go girl!
