I’m not sure. I think the Michael Caine, Max Van Sydow types are too old — we should probably be checking out Downton Abbey for the right group of actors!

I was thinking the same thing about it being a movie. Who do you think would play Major Pettigrew?

I read this one in 2010 and so I knew very little about it. I was pleasantly surprised by the dry British humor and some of the characters, but the ending did feel different from the rest of the book. The pacing is so slow through out and then it feels like the end is a big rush to wrap things up. Great review!

I enjoyed this book but was also a little let down (not a big letdown, just a little one) by the wrap up. It was also reminiscent of but was ultimately less than “Old Filth” — which is perhaps an unfair bar, but there you go.

I actually think this could be a great movie.
