W.i.P. Wednesday

I had a couple finishes this week in case you missed them: Sherbet and Stripes Quilt and Patio Placemats. I also finished my Happy Birthday pennants, but that post goes up tomorrow so you’ll have to wait until then.

I have two quilts in progress right now — my Patchwork Sampler for my Essential Quilting Class, and my Boyfriend Quilt. Both have been on hold while I’ve waited to find sashing, binding, and backing fabric that I liked. This weekend I purchased everything I needed to get these two quilts finished!

For the Patchwork Sampler, I’m going to try sashing it in navy instead of my usual white. I’m not sure how this will turn out, but I like the idea so I’m going with it for now. The backing is Denise Schmidt’s Meadowlark line for Joann (and, bonus, on sale!), and the binding is Peak Hour by Kellie Wulfsohn for Riley Blake. I think it will all work together nicely with my blue and green blocks.

For my Boyfriend Quilt, the quilt top is already done, and I had already chosen the binding — brown and green striped Pimatex. For the backing, I ordered Town and Country Brown Tiny Diamonds by Dear Stella.

For both I’ll probably do a little piecework on the back like I did on my Sherbet and Stripes quilt.

I am also still working on my Nightshade Gradations Bag. I’ve completed the lining and the straps — just need to assemble the whole thing.

I am starting a new project tonight — I have a dress from Target that I LOVE and wear all the time. And it looks fairly easy to construct, so I’m going to attempt to make a pattern and create the dress myself. I chose Tula Pink’s Raven Lace in Vapor (or “blue” as the rest of the world might call it), because I think it’s gorgeous and sort of awesomely creepy:

I also bought myself a FQ bundle of Piccadilly Circle from the Intrepid Thread — I love this color combination! Along with Pink Castle’s Stash Builder Bundle from this month, I am finally liking the pinks I have to choose from in my stash!

Comments

  1. Love that dress fabric!

An aside: I just bought 2 dresses from Target—best purchases in a long time. Everyone comments, “oo, you’re all dressed up!”—as if it is difficult to pull a dress over your head? Makes me laugh every time. And makes me wonder why wearing a dress or skirt is seen as more difficult or uncomfortable than wearing a shirt w/a pair of shorts/pants? Seems equally easy to me.

Anyhow, can’t wait to see your dress project and to see if we have the same dress.

  2. Good luck on the dress! That’s beautiful fabric! I just met Tula Pink this past week-end! I’m now an even bigger fan! Someone else there had made a dress from her fabric too. Awesome!

  3. Your boyfriend quilt is great! Love the colors. And the pinks are awesome!

  4. I love your quilts! The boyfriend quilt is really cool.

  5. P.S. I’m a copy editor…so I appreciate your blog headline. :)
