W.i.P. Wednesday

Well! It’s been quite the two weeks in Cori’s Sewing Land — I’ve been working on so many things!

My friend Julia commissioned me to make her some pillows for her couch. I’m using half-square triangles to make chevrons, in navy and yellow. Love them! Here is one when I laid it out. I actually have both pieced and quilted — I’m just waiting on getting the matching navy backing fabric!

I also worked with my friend Cathy on serging! Until yesterday evening, I’d never used a serger (because, let’s face it, terrifying), but it’s something that I’d wanted to learn for a while so I asked for a lesson. We went through how to thread The Beast (it only took fifteen minutes — jeez!), and practiced on some scraps. It was definitely different than a regular sewing machine, but I think it’s manageable! I can’t wait for Sewing Summit so that I can play around with some of the Babylock sergers.

Speaking of Sewing Summit, I have a few things I’ve been working on for the conference. First, I am working on another gathered clutch for the Pretty Little Pouch swap. I want to do a little embroidery, to make this one extra-special for my swap partner. There will also be a fun little gift inside the bag. No photos — I want it to be a surprise!

I took next Monday off (doing Tough Mudder this weekend — thought an extra day to recover would be a good idea) and I plan on doing as much of my cutting/prep work for Sewing Summit that is possible. I have to cut a heck of a lot of diamonds and hexies!

I’m working on a name tag for the Summit as well. I’m trying embroidery, but I’m not sure if I’m in love with it yet. We’ll see how things go — I’m trying to figure out what else to do with it. Definitely a W.i.P.!

I’ve also started making a Jane Market Bag so that I can tote around all my stuff at the Summit. I’m modifying the pattern slightly, using Pellon fusible fleece and quilting it to give the bag some sturdiness. REALLY love how this one is coming together. Bella is absolutely my favorite line of fabric right now.

Many of my friends have been asking me to teach them how to sew, so I am putting together a little Sewing 101 class. We’ll learn the basics of machine sewing by making a little tote bag. I sewed up a sample last night:

SUPER CUTE, right? Love the Tula Pink Price Charming Dew Drops fabric. Can’t wait to get the class going — I think it’s going to be a lot of fun!
