My lovely friend Julia asked me to make her some pillows for her apartment. She pretty much gave me free reign over the design — all she mentioned was that her couches are navy blue.
I decided to create some half-square triangle chevrons, which I’ve seen in several different places. I used Dear Stella’s Gridlock fabric in navy, and Tula Pink’s Hex Box Prince Charming fabric in yellow, and the background is Kona Snow (I finally bought yards and yards of Kona Snow. I use it all the time!). I thought these would go nicely with her couch, but would work within other decor if she ever got new couches.
On one pillow I used three blue chevrons and one yellow, and on the other I used three yellow chevrons and one blue, for some fun contrast! While making these, I chain-pieced quite a bit — I love how quickly HSTs go together when chain piecing.
The quilting echoes the chevrons, and I love how it makes the colors stand out. This was also my first foray into using Aurifil thread, and I really loved how I had very little lint and breakage with it.
The final size is slightly larger than 18″, so that they’ll fit on 18″ pillow forms perfectly. They are backed in Dear Stella’s coordinating navy solid, and have an envelope closure.
I hope Julia loves them! If not…she can send them back to me and I’ll keep them for myself!
