Hello my lovely readers! I feel like I’ve been gone forever, but really it’s only been a week.
I thought I might have some energy to blog a little in the last few days, but my foot surgery has really taken it out of me. Today I finally have enough energy to write a bit, so I thought I’d give you all a little update.
My bunion surgery was Wednesday afternoon, so wouldn’t you know it — I got rear-ended on Tuesday evening! I was meeting friends for our freezer food exchange and was whomped by a Rav-4 while stopped in traffic on the highway. Thankfully, it wasn’t too bad (the Volvo is a tank), I didn’t hit the car in front of me, and my chiropractor was able to get me in for an exam and good old-fashioned cracking the morning before my surgery.
The actual surgery went as well as I could have hoped. I don’t remember drifting off or Ryan giving me a kiss — I just remember waking up in the recovery area, super hungry. I was told I was probably going to be in pain and have some level of nausea, but mostly I just wanted a hamburger. Thankfully I didn’t have access to a hamburger, or I probably would have made myself sick gorging on it. Instead, Ryan fed me ginger ale and saltines. That night our neighbor brought over a chicken casserole — delicious!
I had very little pain that evening or the next day. The pain medication did a great job of keeping me pretty numb, but it made me lightheaded and cotton-mouthed so I moved to just Tylenol pretty quickly and that seems to do the trick for the most part, and so far I seem to be able to stay ahead of the pain. I have had some on-and-off nausea since the surgery, but nothing too bad.
Getting around is a pretty pathetic experience, with me limping around the house holding onto any available hand-hold. Showering is a laughable experience. Mostly I sit on the couch and ask Ryan (or whoever happens to be hanging around) to get me things. You’d think I’d feel like a princess, but mostly I feel like a lazy bum who refuses to heat up her own soup.
The hardest part about lying around all day is that it somehow makes me even more tired. Guess it’s all a part of the healing process, but I’m ready to have my normal level of energy back!
What did I miss while I was out of commission? Leave me some blog links in the comments so I can catch up!
